Bar/Bat Mitzvah
A Bar mitzvah(for boys) or a Bat mitzvah(for girls) os an important ceremony that celebrates the coming of age in Jewish tradition - 13 years old for boys and 12 years old for girls! This coming of age marks the change from a child to a Torah considered adult. On this day you read from the Torah, lead prayers, and celebrate with family and friends!
Story Time!
Once upon a time, there was a soon to be bar Mitzvah boy named David. David was very nervous for his Bar Mitzvah even though he had been practicing his torah reading for weeks so far. On the big day, David stood strong and and tall in front of his family and friends with the intention of showing them just how much of an adult he is! As he read from the torah he felt a sense of pride rush over him - this was the moment he had worked so hard for! Afterwards, his family and friends celebrated with him by singing, dancing and eating delicious food. David realized that his Br Mitzvah really was all about the beginning of his life as a responsible Jewish adult.
Steps:
01.
Torah Reading
In the months leading up to a Bar Mitzvah, the boy practices reading from the Torah. This special reading is the highlight of the ceremony.
02.
Lead the Prayers
During the Bar Mitzvah, the boy leads part of the prayers in the synagogue, showing that he is ready to take on the responsibilities of Jewish adulthood.
03.
Celebrate
After the ceremony, there is a festive celebration with family and friends. There is dancing, singing, and plenty of food to mark the occasion.
04.
Perform Mitzvot
After becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, the kid is responsible for doing mitzvot (commandments) like charity, helping others, and participating in the community.
