Passover

Passover celebrates the Jewish people's escape from slavery in egypt! Families have a mean(seder) where they eat symbolic foods that remind us of our time as slaves in egypt. We also don't eat any chametz in honor of our people not eating any chametz while walking in the dessert - instead of chametz we eat Matzah!

Story Time!

Once upon a time, the Jewish people were slaves in Egypt and we prayed for freedom. One day, Moses went to Pharaoh and commanded him to let the jewish people go but Pharaoh said no! In response to this no, God plagued the people of Egypt in order to further scare Pharoah. After 10 total tries of Moses commanding Pharoah to let his people go and after 10 plagues on the Egyptian people, Pharaoh finally let the Jewish people go. During their walk out of Egypt, Moses struck his staff into a lake and boom the red sea parted, a sign and miracle from God that spoke to the freedom of the Jewish people. This is the story of passover and it reminds us the power of staying faithful and trusting God!

Steps:

Cleaning Tables

01.

Remove Chametz

Before Passover begins, we clean our homes to remove chametz (leavened bread). This helps us focus on the importance of matzah and the story of the Exodus.

Passover Symbols

02.

The Seder

During the Seder, we tell the story of the Israelites’ escape from Egypt. We read from the Haggadah, sing songs, and ask the Four Questions.

Matza

03.

Matzah

We eat matzah to remember the bread that didn’t rise during the escape and bitter herbs to remind us of the bitterness of slavery.

Door

04.

Elijah

At the end of the Seder, we open the door to welcome the prophet Elijah, who is believed to visit every Jewish home on Passover.
