Tzedakah
Tzedakah means to give to those in need and it is one of the biggest mitzvot we as Jewish people have - so much so that it is technically required for us to donate 20% of our income to charity and to tzedakah! Despite this, tzedakah isn't just about giving charity but it is also about justice and fairness and ensuring that everyone has enough!
Story Time!
Once upon a time, Mia had a small tzedakah box that sat on her dresser and each week she would drop a coin or two inside. Once day, she noticed that it was almost full! Mia asked her parents, "What should i do with all this money?" Her mom explained to her that tzedakah isn't just about giving money and that it is about helping others in any way we can. Together, they decided on donating the money to the local food bank - ensuring food for people that wont be able to afford it. On the way to the food bank, Mia realized that even the small acts for example putting in a couple of coins in the tzedakah box per week can add up and make a major impact on people's lives!
Steps:
01.
Save Money
Set aside money in a special tzedakah box. Each week or whenever you can, drop coins or small bills into the box, knowing it will help someone in need.
02.
Where to Give
When the tzedakah box is full, decide where to donate. It could be to a food bank, a charity, or someone in need. Giving helps make the world a fairer place.
03.
Intention
When giving tzedakah, it’s important to give with a kind heart. The act of giving is as important as the donation itself—helping others with love and care.
04.
Acts of Kindness
Tzedakah isn’t just about giving money. You can also give your time, help others, or be kind to someone who needs support. Every small act makes a difference.
