Yom Kippur
Yom Kippur is a very special day for the Jewish people as it serves as a day where we can say sorry and have God forgive us for anything bad that we might have done that past year - it is a time to repent. in order to elevate this feeling of repentance, we fast for 25 hours and don't use any electricity!
Story Time!
Once upon a time, there was a kid named Danny! Danny loved to play soccer and was also very good at it. One day, Danny kicked the soccer ball into his friend Sara's garden, ruining her flowers. As Yom Kippur came up, Danny learned of how special apologizing on this day can be - apologizing to people and also to God. After understanding that he can make things right and fix his relationship with Sara, Danny went to Sara and apologized to her - Sara immediately accepted his apology. Throughout this experience, Danny learned that Yom Kippur is a day where we have the power to fix our mistakes and make things right!
Steps:
01.
Reflection
Sit quietly and reflect on the past year. Think about any mistakes you may have made and how you can be a better person in the new year.
02.
Saying Sorry
Apologize to anyone you may have hurt or upset. This is the time to make things right by saying “I’m sorry” from the heart.
03.
Fasting
For those who fast, this is a time to focus on being grateful and thinking about how to improve in the new year. If not fasting, children can spend the day doing good deeds!
04.
Starting Fresh
After Yom Kippur, it’s a new beginning! Commit to being kinder, more thoughtful, and a better friend or family member.
